State Archives Uri
The department of education and cultre Uri is in charge of the state archives Uri (office for state archives) and manages the storing of records and documents in the canton of Uri. The elegant building with the mansard roof and the splendid tail gable was built in 1911 according to the plans by architect Karl Griot from Lucerne. The state archives ensures, reconstructs and archives the stocks and documents of the administration and the authorities. Furthermore, it looks after the collections and the entire records stored in the archives. It informs and advises the authorities and third parties in questions concerning the archives, promotes historic research as well as the scientific and journalistic work. It complements and manages the cantonal collections of art and cultural assets and sporadically organises exhibitions on art and culture.
