Although the museums in Uri are mostly of local and regional importance, some of them have to show items in their collections that are of supracantonal significance. In addition, various museums are housed in protected old buildings. Among the smaller collections, too, there are noteworthy cultural assets. In proportion to the number of inhabitants, the canton Uri possesses an impressive quantity of museums.
